As Featured in The Daily Northwestern
Last week, student reporter William Clark from The Daily Northwestern contacted me about my DIY marathon, then wrote this wonderful piece.
In his introductory email to me on 10/17/20, Will wrote:
“Dear Ms. Wolf,
How are you? My name is Will Clark, and I'm a first-year journalism major at Northwestern University and a writer at the Daily Northwestern. I, along with my mentor at the Daily Northwestern, Jacob Fulton, would like to write a story profiling you and your fundraising for the YWCA during COVID-19. Would you be available to interview with us over Zoom and talk about that? The story deadline is Wednesday, October 21st at 4:00, so if you are available before then, please let me know what would work with your schedule. I’m available between 6:00-10:00am on Monday or Wednesday, as well as between 6:00am-12:30pm on Tuesday. If those times don’t work for you, feel free to let me know a different time that would! Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Will Clark”
Will’s column was published in The Daily Northwestern on 10/22/20. Two days later, I was contacted by Taylor Dutch, a contributing writer and editor at Runner’s World:
”Hi Christine,
I hope this email finds you well! My name is Taylor Dutch, and I'm a contributing writer and editor for Runner's World. I just read the story about your recent marathon fundraiser for YWCA in The Daily Northwestern. Your contributions towards anti-racism and women's empowerment programs are so inspiring and a much-needed bright spot in these challenging times.
I was wondering if you'd be interested in an essay for Runner's World (either written by you or as told to me) about the role that running/walking has played in your life and how you are using it to combat racism.
If you're interested, please let me know. I'm also available for a call if you'd like to discuss further. Thank you for your time and consideration!
All the best,
Taylor Dutch”
What a total and amazing surprise! I can’t wait to dive into that piece, and I’ll be sure to post it here on my site when it’s published. I think all this stuff points to how much difference each of us can make if we start by taking one step forward.
KEEP GOING!!!
P.S. I just stumbled on this link that reminded me (!) I’ve been featured in The Daily Northwestern a few times now —dating back to 2013 when I honed my advocacy chops pushing hard to bring a bowling alley to town. lol
